August 2016 Manufacturing Update

August 29, 2016

This month you’ll see that the Federal Reserve’s August Business Outlook Survey shows only a slight uptick over last month, even though the majority of firms expect an increase in activity over the next six months.  On-line manufacturing job postings remain strong, consistently over 2,500 in our region for the past 20 months.

Reminded of the often cited misquote of Mark Twain (“Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated!”), this month’s article—Is U.S. Manufacturing Really in Decline—offers some solid insight into how the sector has transformed over the past decade or more.  The decline in employment is certainly not the whole story!

Remember that our 5th Annual Manufacturing Summit will take place on October 19th at Drexelbrook.  There are still opportunities for sponsors and exhibitors in what promises to be another landmark event for our manufacturing community.  If you’re interested, contact Mark Basla at the DVIRC.  And please spread the word about Manufacturing Day—“a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.”
