Ehmke Manufacturing

Advancing MBD for Greater Quality & Digital Continuity

Background

Ehmke Manufacturing partners with CCAT and DVIRC to expand Model-Based Definition beyond compliance into integrated, automated quality workflows.

Project Highlights

  • ENABLE – BFA Pilot (Sept 2025 – Dec 2025)
  • MBD maturity assessment
  • Cross-functional evaluation sessions
  • Integration planning with CATIA and DISCUS
  • DISCUS 3D Add-On implementation
  • Reimbursement support for selected solution

Challenges

Ehmke has used Model-Based Definition (MBD) since 2009 to meet defense customer requirements. While audit-ready and well established, its use was largely compliance-driven. They saw opportunity to:

  • Increase efficiency through automation
  • Reduce manual documentation effort
  • Improve alignment between engineering and manufacturing
  • Extend MBD into quality workflows

The goal was deeper integration — not system replacement.

Solutions

Through the ENABLE pilot, CCAT and DVIRC led a structured evaluation and targeted integration process:

  • MBD awareness training through Digital Thread Lab
  • MBD maturity assessment
  • Gemba walk and workflow review
  • Identification of high-value integration areas
  • Technology pathway comparison and selection guidance
  • Implementation funding support

Given Ehmke’s maturity, the engagement moved directly into focused implementation.

Results

  • Increased speed and consistency in engineering and production workflows
  • Reduced manual effort through MBD-driven automation
  • Improved visualization and dimensional clarity for quality teams
  • Stronger alignment between design intent and manufacturing execution
  • Expanded use of MBD beyond audit compliance

Financial Support
Reimbursement support provided through ENABLE pilot funding

Through ENABLE, we expanded our Model-Based Definition capabilities without disrupting workflows. The guidance helped us identify practical steps to improve efficiency and quality.
