{"id":31208,"date":"2021-07-28T17:34:08","date_gmt":"2021-07-28T17:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dvirc.org\/insights\/dvirc-kicks-off-workforce-demand-study\/"},"modified":"2023-03-08T14:03:49","modified_gmt":"2023-03-08T14:03:49","slug":"dvirc-kicks-off-workforce-demand-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dvirc.org\/insights\/dvirc-kicks-off-workforce-demand-study\/","title":{"rendered":"DVIRC Kicks off Workforce Demand Study to Support Growing Need for Manufacturing Workers, Essential Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DVIRC\u2019s recently established <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvirc.org\/insights\/dvirc-establishes-manufacturing-advisory-council-to-support-technology-and-workforce-needs\/\">Manufacturing Advisory Council<\/a>, created to support the region\u2019s Industry 4.0 technology and workforce needs, kicked off a Workforce Labor Demand and Education Supply study this week, in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montcopa.org\/1569\/MontcoWorks\">Montgomery County Workforce Development Board<\/a> (MontcoWorks) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peco.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\">PECO<\/a>. The Advisory Council, made up of a diverse ecosystem of regional leaders plans to achieve the following goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Analyze the workforce demand within the regional manufacturing sector, including demand for the necessary current and future skills, and<\/li>\n<li>Conduct an educational program audit of high schools, universities, and technical colleges to analyze the skills their programs are producing and participants are developing<\/li>\n<li>Identify Pathway Mapping to meet in-demand occupations to transition existing workers within industry or outside of manufacturing \u2013 based on two core elements \u2013 Skills Adjacency (similar skills requiring upskilling to bridge gap), and Realized Transitions (through career awareness, attract individuals with greater potential to transition into manufacturing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DVIRC has engaged Burning Glass, an analytics software company supported by the world\u2019s largest and most sophisticated database of labor market data that focuses on the labor market, to conduct the study. In addition to quantitative analysis, the study will include qualitative input through primary research conducted with industry leaders and education stakeholders in the Philadelphia, Berks, and Lancaster metropolitan areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we complete the study, Burning Glass will provide a recommendation report that will inform how Philadelphia, Berks, and Lancaster area stakeholders can transform the manufacturing workforce ecosystem to support a regional economic powerhouse,\u201d says Mark Basla, DVIRC\u2019s Chief Marketing Officer and organizer of the company\u2019s Manufacturing Advisory Council. \u201cThe report will include a roadmap for addressing the challenges and opportunities for immediate actions to expand access to talent and longer-term actions to build a diverse and skilled talent pipeline, including K-12 programs, inclusive of underserved populations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Advisory Council was developed through an award DVIRC received from the Department of Defense\u2019s (DoD) Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation (OLDCC) to help strengthen the capabilities and competitiveness of the region\u2019s small and mid-sized manufacturers (SMMs) critical to the economy and our national security. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvirc.org\/dod-programs\/\">Learn more about DVIRC\u2019s work with DoD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>AMT Advisory Council Members<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Business Community Members<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Michael Araten, President &amp;
