Manufacturing Technology Orders Surge in March
March U.S. manufacturing technology orders jumped more than 30%, according to a May 13 announcement from the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT).
The figure, which is drawn from national and regional sales of machine tools and related equipment, is believed to be an important leading indicator for the manufacturing sector as a whole.
Although the March figure represents more modest year-over-year gains (3.2%), and year-to-date sales figures are still in negative territory (-5.0%), it is important to note that 2012 ended on a particularly strong note, and the AMT is quick to point out that orders reports from its members are “much better” than analysts predicted in January.
